The Butoh Rockettes was a performance group created by the dancer/choreographer Celeste Hastings in 1996 with dancers Chris Maresca and Patti Bradshaw. Celeste Hastings had a great deal of experience in Butoh having appeared in numerous performances with Hisatoshi Poppo Shiraishi (Poppo) starting in 1984. With the Butoh Rockettes she took a playful and humorous approach to an art form usually known for its austere esthetics, creating what I would call “Tongue-in-Cheek Butoh”
